Study Guide
Livestock Risk Protection is a fairly straightforward program. With a little training, most livestock owners should be able to fully utilize LRP with little trouble. This study guide is designed to explain LRP and how the program works. The guide also addresses some of the advantages and drawbacks LRP may have relative to other hedging strategies.
The guide is organized in five chapters covering topics ranging from a general overview of LRP insurance to a detailed look at LRP basis.
Important! USDA-RMA has revised the LRP policy. The 2008 LRP Policy Updates provides detailed information regarding LRP program changes for 2008.
Although the chapters are fully integrated and intended to be studied sequentially, they can also be used individually for anyone with different information needs. In addition to the text for each chapter, there is also a slide presentation to accompany the materials. You may access them via the links on the left-hand side of this page.
Video lectures which highlight some of the most important points within each section are also available in the Lecture Series section of this web site.
