Enrollment
Enrollment in the LRP program requires a short application process. See a sample form.
Producers must have a basic policy in place if they want to purchase coverage. Applying for the basic policy does not incur any costs nor does it require a commitment to purchasing coverage in the future. Producers are under no obligation to purchase LRP coverage after obtaining a basic policy. This enrollment process is completed through a licensed crop insurance agent. A list of insurance agents licensed to sell LRP is available on the USDA-RMA's Web site.
It is advisable for livestock producers with any interest in LRP to go through the application process, which generally takes only a few minutes. That way, if a producer planned on covering livestock with LRP, the policy would already be in place and coverage could be purchased quickly. If the policy is not in place, there may be a delay in purchasing coverage. This could result in coverage prices or premiums changing. The day a producer chooses to cover livestock with LRP is generally not the day to start the enrollment process.
